Yes, that's a user-friendly interface to the same thing -- regedit is  
more sysadmin friendly...

Now I'm confused. You yourself stop these non-essential things  
loading, but you want to know why, when someone else removes them?

When every one of these things is a potential back door, you want to  
keep them to a minimum. I don't think differently just because I'm  
configuring a Windows system.
