Quite a lot of these freebie apps load at boot time or at log in.  
They really do slow down Windows. Sometimes merely uninstalling them  
doesn't work. Cleaning out HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/ 
CurrentVersion/Run can save a few minutes *each* time a user logs in.

Once the 3rd party cruft is cleaned out, you've then got to attack  
the MS stuff. Start with the QoS stuff so you get the remaining 10%  
of your bandwidth back.

Windows is a pain to set up, and often (not just sometimes), a system  
can't be usefully recovered if it's been used for a few months by  
someone who can't be trusted not to click on every "kittens" email  
they get.
