Sorry, apparently a misunderstanding... the
*connectors* on this box will be the same as
on the 411 case.  However, the *case* itself is
the "same shape as the 411 but twice as tall"

What's *harder* to find is the extra VSIMM for it!

Hmmmm... I thought the HME was supposed to have an

If you look carefully, you will see that there is
much less room "above" the topmost connector than
the bottom one.  The bottom one will accept a 1.6"
tall drive while the top will only accept a 1"

With just two relatively slow CPUs, its not too bad.
But, with four "fast" (ha!) ones, the SS20's piss
poor cooling takes its toll.  Especially if you have
two disks in it and/or are beating on the CPUs...

Grrrr... My bad.  Sorry, I should learn to take
more time writing/reviewing my posts before I
hit "SEND".  (I try very hard to keep my "on-line
time" to an absolute minimum!)

The SS20 drive will NOT fit in a Mac.  It is an
SCA drive.  The Mac will need a SE 50-pin drive.
And, IIRC, a 1/3rd height, maximum (LCIII is a
very "short" enclosure, right?).

Sun boxen have damn little in common with each
other -- besides the Sun logo!  :<

E.g., the SS1+, SS2, SS10 (which all look like
an SS20, more or less) take SE 50 pin drives.
(I was thinking of the SS10 when I wrote that
original statement).  Yet, the SS4, SS5, SS20
(which *also* resemble the SS20) take SCA 
drives.  (hmmm... I may have the SS4 in the
wrong group, there... :< )

While the first group can accept half height
drives, the second group can only accept 1/3
height drives (though there is a hack you can
use to cram a single half height drive into
one of these machines -- with some minor surgery).

Memory is also not very interchangeable (though
there is *some* overlap).

The U1 can accept a half height SCA drive (in the
bottom slot) and a third height drive in the top
slot.  (N.B. the U1 also has other names -- Netra,
etc.)  OTOH, the U2 takes a pair of third height 
drives side by side.

U5 and U10 take IDE drives -- the U5 only one while
the U10 will handle 2 (you can also configure the
U10 to automatically do mirroring between the
drives!).

U30 and U60 will take two half height SCA drives.
I think the U80 is likewise -- but the 420R (which
is a rack mounted U80) will only handle third
height drives (?).

The 411 (and 811) cases accept SE 50 pin drives
while the 611 accepts SCA drives (but the 611T
accepts SE 50's -- even though it has a wide SCSI
connector on the back panel!)

CPUs are just as non-interchangeable as well.   :<

And, if you want to *connect* anything to a Sun
box, the range of different cables and cabling
*schemes* is mind boggling!  (e.g., the IPC
uses a circular mini-DIN for each serial port;
other machines use a DB-25; some machines put
*two* serial ports on a single DB25; etc.)

Sun hardware is outright *wacky*!  Birdsall's
FAQ is a *must* have if you intend to play with
Sun boxen (I believe it is being updated -- it
is quite old, now).

[Note I haven't even addressed the *newer* Sun
boxen -- nor the old Sun3 hardware, etc.  :> ]

Sorry for the confusion.  :<  I'll look to see 
if I have any spare SE narrow drives lying around.
I *know* I have a third height drive with A/UX
on it -- but I would be really hesitant to lose
that :<   Pity as I just recycled a 2G half height
two weeks ago...  I'm pretty sure that my Beige G3
(next machine to be recycled, here) uses an IDE
drive (?) so that isn't a very good source...

Note that you also need to make sure whatever
"sled" is present for the Mac -- since mounting
a drive without one can be a PITA.  I can't
recall how the LCIII drive is mounted -- nor
can I recall what "accessories" it accepts
(cache cards, accelerators, etc.  I'll try to 
spend some time googling and see what I have
stashed away in my "old Mac" box...
