Abiword is only useful for rtf-level editing. It's yer "wordpad"
replacement.

Another option is to run Word on Windows on VMware or DOSbox.
(ducks)
OO.o is a (free) nasty replacement for a (pricey) nasty package, so
you might as well have the same set of problems/complaints as your
colleagues.
