I figure that the people running this machine know less about Linux than I
do, so I don't want to make a headache for myself. The very fact that I'll
be using the mac address (or whatever the source/meaning of number) will
probably not be obvious. For instance, I might find the mac address, like:
01:23:45:67:89:01 , and dress it up like: A01B23C45D67E89F01G, and make a
key from there. People will see A01B23C45D67E89F01G, but probably have no
idea that it contains a mac address and some static replacements, perhaps
even derss it up to look like a GUID {23343-209872-22-2-2-2080987whatever}
