It wasn't clear how your suggestion of just redirecting date (standard date
output) into the file would result in:
"all entries beyond this one occur in the year xxxx"
being appended to the file. Or were you meaning something like:
echo all entries beyond this one occur in the year `date +%Y` >> yum.log
Then it wasn't clear how logwatch handles this. I know my approach, clunky
as it is, will work.
