Thanks for the tip. I gave it a try, but it does seem to support loading its
filesystems off a USB CDROM. But, you're on the right track that some other
live CD is probably the easiest solution.

After Puppy Linux didn't work I tried Mepis. But Mepis wouldn't even
boot... just gave me a GRUB prompt.

"So I asked the newsboy. He didn't know. So I asked the fireman, the green
grocerer, the butcher, the baker, they didn't know! But the liquor store
guy... he knew."

And that led me to the latest Ubuntu install CD which is also a live CD. I've
never actually booted an Ubuntu system before. One of the prettiest boots
I've ever seen. I half expected the Master Control Program to pop up at the
end.

Anyway, that worked. System booted, mounted my filesystems, chrooted into my
harddrive's root, and then fixed the problem. Yay!

Not only that, but the kernel Ubuntu 6.06.1 is using (modified 2.6.15) didn't
even have that annoying USB problem that has plagued me since 2.6.13. I
wonder that they are doing differently?
