[Tfug] Printing in Debian Sarge

I have a box that I set up as a desktop machine with Debian Sarge.

My printer is an HP lj4 on a jetdirect card with ip 192.168.254.16

Using the http://localhost:631 url in my browser, I set up the printer
in CUPS.

It works fine printing web pages but nothing prints in Evolution or Open
Office.

Any hints?  I'm using the KDE desktop.
