haha.  hey jude, it's really ok.  didn't mean to freak you out.

booting to ubuntu, downloading debian debs, rebooting to debian, and
installing the still-debian debs is not really mixing ubuntu and
debian.

he's trying to fix debian and can't do so from debian, so he has to
use ubuntu to get the debs.  i assumed he'd know that he needed debian
debs for debian, but your post reminds me that i should have listed
the steps.
