[Grrr... apologies if this appears twice -- or THRICE!]
I'm trying to configure a WRT54G "backwards" -- I
want to attach a host (an SS5) to the "Internet"
connection on the router to simulate ''Internet''
activity.
The I/F on the SS5 is configured:
ifconfig be0 inet 10.4.0.62 netmask 0xffff0000
I would like to configure the router to appear at
10.4.0.111/16.
I reset the WRT54G to defaults. Then, attach a
machine to one of the regular network ports on the
router and browse to http://192.168.1.1 to access
the configuration pages.
I select "Static IP" and specify the IP and mask.
Save settings.
Then, from the SS5 try to ping 10.4.0.111 -- but
no luck!
Does the "Internet" connection need a crossover
cable? Does the router ignore pings/ICMP on
that port?
(sigh) What else can I try?
Thanks!
