[Tfug] Any PCI-Express experts in the house?

It's a Dell XPS 600 (With the nVidia SLI Intel 32x chipset) that I am *trying* to put an x4 PCI-E SATA II RAID Controller (3ware 9590SE-8ML) into. If I remove one of the PCI-E graphics cards and put the x4 RAID card in its place, it doesn't boot. Without the RAID controller in it, it boots with only one video card installed.

I assume I'm screwed.

Maybe.

Is it a true x16 slot, or is it a PEG?

We ran into an issue with a dell GX620, you can't use the x16 PEG slot
(PCI Express Graphics) slot for anything but video.

Most SLI boards, or server boards with x16 slots are universal x16, but
most consumer boards with one x16 slot are only PEG slots, not full PCI
Express.

A true x16 slot can use x16, x8, x4 and x1 cards, but a PEG slot can
only work with a video card
