[Tfug] ip_tables kernel code no longer possible to build into the kernel?

actually, i am not talking about the iptables (8) program at all.

make oldconfig is not letting me build iptables support (code that
runs as part of the kernel, sometimes called a module) into the
kernel.

take a look at the output below (or in my original post).

THE KEY POINT IS HERE ==> notice how N is the default, Y is not even
an option, and it says NEW even though it has been around for a long
time <== OK, NOW YOU HAVE READ THE KEY POINT.  :-)

the output is between the equals signs:

iptables is a general, extensible packet identification framework.
The packet filtering and full NAT (masquerading, port forwarding,
etc) subsystems now use this: say `Y' or `M' here if you want to use
either of those.

To compile it as a module, choose M here.  If unsure, say N.

    IP tables support (required for filtering/masq/NAT)
(IP_NF_IPTABLES) [N/m/?] (NEW)
