AFS handles merging these discrete namespaces
into a single cohesive one.  But, it implicitly
relies on the fact that the name spaces for each
such site (system) already is "unique".  No two
branches of the resulting name space can have the
same (and thus CONFLICTING) name.

Imagine every system having "pub" at the *top* of
it's hierarchy.  How do you merge them *without*
relying on the domain name system that resides 
*above* that to disambiguate?
