[Tfug] Filesystem/Distro suggestions?

been a while since i researched xfs, but i recall that it has a policy
in some modes of writing nul to files that had pending changes when
the system crashed.

i saw a partly convincing argument that this is better than ext3's
default approach, probably because of multifile atomicity or privacy.
but it would be bad in some cases to lose the whole file just because
a tiny change needed to be made to it. the discussion covered the
fact that sgi hardware was far better than today's pc's at handling
power fails gracefully.

perhaps that mode can be turned off when it is undesirable.

other than this concern, the results of my investigation were that xfs
is an appealing choice along with ext3 (which has indeed bitten me
also) and the future ext4/ext3++.
