[Tfug] Silly virtual terminal keys

  On a newly built Gentoo box I ran into a strange problem.  If I am in 
X (xorg-x11) I can use the shortcut keys to jump around to other virtual 
terminals.  But, once I am in a command line virtual terminal I can no 
loner use the shortcut key to jump back to the X session.  The keys 
still work but only to other CLI virtual terminals.  To get back into X 
I have to kill and restart it.  I have checked the xorg logs but there 
are no errors.  Any ideas?
