Hey that's a great page, thanks for the link. Unfortunately I apt-getted 
hotkeys on my ubuntu box and it didn't like it. I was able to get 
xbindkeys to launch xterm on the buttons, so I'm really happy to finally 
make some progress on this. Xbindkeys thinks that I'm hitting the 'mod4' 
modifier along with the numers 1-5, so I can open programs with them, 
but I'm unable to get xmodmap to map the buttons to up/down/left/right 
and enter (which is my end result). Getting there!!
