[Tfug] debian quandary: install 3rd-party deb,
upgrade to etch or sid, or compile upstream?

Yup, there's a LOT of messy working going on in Debian right now. More
g++ shinanigans and other stuff you don't want to get in the middle of.

How could it distroy anything? It will replace it, but you can always
remove this version and reinstall the Debian version, that's the whole point
of having a packaging system.
