muas do make a big difference. they can encourage one style over
another for both posting and reading. for example, some readers
autohide quoted text.
they can also really screw things up for mixed styles, such as by not
actually prefixing each line with "> ". that is as important in top
posting as it is in inline replies. that probably started with
microsoft.
