I think my lilo is messed up; I stupidly typed "lilo" at the boot
prompt after the "aptitude -f --with-recommends dist-upgrade" because
the kernel installation didn't know where to place the mbr; I panicked!!
I read the docs and am having some trouble, I'm sure things are fine; I
changed it about ten times; here is the lilo warnings and the lilo.conf
is as it appears now:

*house:/boot# lilo*
Warning: /dev/hdb is not on the first disk
Added Linux *
Added WindowsXP
Syntax error at or above line 13 in file '/etc/lilo.conf'

*lilo.conf:*

*charles at house:~$ cat /etc/lilo.conf*

map=/boot/map

*here is fdisk -l*

*house:/home/charles# fdisk -l*

*/dev/hda is my WindowsXP partition, which /IS/ the first disk.

here is uname (because I'm booting from the floppy):
*Linux house 2.4.18-bf2.4 #1 Son Apr 14 09:53:28 CEST 2002 i686 GNU/Linux*

Here are the files contained in / (minus the directories):
*initrd.img
initrd.img.old
vmlinuz*
*vmlinuz.old

*I'm still learning about the new initrd process; I guess it boots off
RAM which is loaded from somewhere. I'll figure that out.

Here are the files contained in /boot**:

*System.map-2.6.8-2-686
System.map-2.6.11-1-686
System.map-2.4.18-bf2.4

*I had downloaded a couple kernels because I didn't know what I was doing.

Using the new aptitude:
*
*house:/boot# aptitude --version*
aptitude 0.2.15.9 compiled at Apr  7 2005 13:32:48
Compiler: g++ 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-12)

NCurses version: 5.4
libsigc++ version:

*Whatever I did seems to have upgraded all the packages, but because
lilo is messed up, I have to use the old kernel on floppy to boot up.
(*I sure like the new g++3.3.5 !!! Looks sweet!!*)

The wierd thing is that my desktop is now in GNOME; I never used GNOME,
but somehow that's what I get when I boot up with my old floppy. I
kinda like gnome. All the packages are new, including openoffice, but
which doesn't open (ofcourse).

The processor is AMD Athlon (no further information is gnown here, circa
2003).

I'll spare you the /var/log/ files' contents.

I want to eventually get the new X.org xserver on the new Sarge 2.6 kernel.

Miss you all,
*
Charles

ps. It's quite interesting here, water is actually falling from the sky
in the form of small droplets (I swear!), saturating all the surfaces
below, including the trees, the rooftops, and the roadways.
