Both X Window distributions on Linux that I have used (XFree, Xorg) log
their errors/information in /var/log
The file is usually "XFree.0.log" for XFree, and "Xorg.0.log" for Xorg.
The "0" is the display number. So if you have messed with that, then
you may have it XFree.1.log, etc.
