thanks, chris.  i should have said that i ran the identical search,
but was wary of the version mismatch (recent xorg not supported), the
possibility (i have not verified this) that i might have to install a
sourceless (and therefore untrustable) binary, and the fact that xorg
will probably be rapidly upgraded and matrox might not keep up.
