[Tfug] [tcslst] Folding Team Anniversary (fwd)

I think a lot of the hard core folding fans are hardware people. Cranking
through Work Units is one way of saying, "Haha! My computer is faster
than yours!"

None of that means anything to me. The fastest of my four PC's is a 700
Mhz refurbished HP. I guess I started doing it just because it seemed
like a shortcut to accomplishing something meaningful with my time.

Anyway, I do think it reflects well on TCS to be involved -- especially
when we currently place 60th out of over 12,000 teams.

If TFUG wanted to put together a team, I would probably be willing to
divide my processors between the two teams -- or maybe I'd create a
seperate user name and run second copies of the software on each PC.

On the other hand, if there's not enough interest, it's not like it
would hurt non-TCS TFUG members to help process a few WU for the TCS
team. Keeping in mind that the processed data helps everyone -- and
remembering that many open-minded people within the society are
beginning to experiment with Open Source software -- I think what's
good for TCS may turn out to be good for TFUG, too.

+ I'm probably responding to some of what was said below:

. Anthony,
.
. First of all. It's an interesting project, and can contribute to
. all of human society.
.
. If more TFUG members want to do it, it may gain us some favorable
. publicity. Is that what Tucson Computing Society is in it for? Is that
. what we want? Positive publicity? (Others chime in please.)
.
. Cheers,
. Erich
