[Tfug] Running a terminal in the root window

Each window manager has its own way of managing sticky/omnipresent/etc
windows. I'm sure all can do it. I haven't noticed that many will make
maintain the level of the each window the way WindowMaker does. I used
to use WindowMaker (I do no longer), and it was good for me when I used
it. I wouldn't force you to use it if what you needed was provided in
another window manager.

As for Eterm, it is a product of rasterman and so its purpose is purely
for eyecandy. It can do a lot of cool things visually that no other
terminal can do. Aterm is similar but not as feature rich as Eterm.
XGTerm is also very good in that it provides embedded support for SVG
(for viewing statistical demographics in the terminal
http://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/web/projects/x11iraf/implot.gif). If you are
creating dynamic bandwidth statistics in SVG or PS, then XGTerm can view
the changes in realtime for you.

Eterm has its downsides though. It uses more memory and cpu than most
terminal emulators. Many consider it to be bloated. I say that with the
help of screen, you never need more than one term open ever. It also
helps reduce the resource consumption.
