[Tfug] old hp-ux 10.0.x server and dds3 tape drive

hello:
anyone have any experience getting an old hp-ux 10.0.x server to write to
a seagate dds3 tape unit?

options as i see them.

1) hack together a driver from linux world
2) find some patches for this os? Have been unsuccessful so far at hp.com
3) push the backup out to a removeable hard disk. Problematic. not really
an option.

i'd like it if i could get a patch or a driver that will compile cleanly.
oh, a solution was due a week ago. :)
