Hi Doug,

Alot of people hate AMD (Hi Bri. :) ) ... Other people (like me) swear by them.

I've owned both the T-Bird and Duron. The Duron is a good chip to go with if raw computing horsepower isn't really called for. Keep in mind that for the majority of your machine's life, its waiting for _you_, not the other way around. Going with a TBird versus a Duron in this sort of environment just means you'll have a system thats much faster at waiting. :)

Unless youre into gaming, rendering or any other CPU-intensive sport, stick with the Duron. People will throw yakety-yack benchmarks at you left and right, but the bottom line is, you could replace their Folger's crystals with a same-speed Duron and 99% of them cant taste the difference. Besides that, there are a bazillion other things that you can do to improve performance before whining about design specs. Hi Harry, fire away. In most cases, a properly tuned system running with a Duron under the hood meets or exceeds an average (untuned) TBird box.

Cheers,
Bowie

  Hi Guys and Gals,

Im looking to upgrade my CPU from 700 to 1300 and I found out that the A7V can hold up too a 1400 with a 200FSB. My question is would it be better to go with the Duron 1300 or a Thunderbird 1300? I don't know the difference between the two, (like cache wise) so your help would be appreciated. Thanks -

                        Doug
