[Tfug] subdomains

I think of it like this ( And this may be an
oversimplification but close to the RFC's )

Any URL boils down to

HOST.DOMAIN.TLD

Where TLD is the top level domain you're classified
under ( a highly political and $$$$ motivated
stratification I might add ) ie. .com .org .edu .us
.tv add infinitum add naseum.

DOMAIN is the "subdomain" of the TLD which you have
contracted the rights to from your registrar for a
noteworthy but not critical investment per year.....

Considering the history of the question.... you
probably already knew this and the foregoing has been
simply rhetorical.

Lastly.... the HOST part is any "subdomain" you want
to create under the DOMAIN part above. Usually this
refers to any particular web exposed machine in the
DOMAIN. It might be www: your web server or mail: your
mail server or even owned: the name the hackers gave
your machine when they took it so they could add DNS
entries on there DNS servers so they could reference
your machine on the boards as owned.isp.com

In theory you could extend this forever ( I think )
with the proper DNS entries for example
www.newbie.multilevelmarketingscam.domainsearchengine.isp.net

In short.... it's a wild world so watch your back but
I hope this helps.

greg
