FreeBSD
FreeBSD is a full 32 bit operating system developed by the University of
California at Berkeley along with many contributors worldwide. The Treefort
server and many others, like Yahoo, use it because of its performance,
stability and of course, price. The FreeBSD
Inc. site has a wealth of on-line information. A few such items to
be found are:
Installation of FreeBSD
FreeBSD Dialer Setup
Local Networks
-
Pedantic PPP Primer
- A step-by-step guide for configuring FreeBSD systems to act as a dial-up
router/gateway in a Local Area Environment assuming NE-1000, NE-2000, WD/SMC
models 8003, 8013 and Elite Ultra (8216) network adapters for the example.
Other models may have different device names in FreeBSD. Check the FreeBSD
FAQ for specifics about your network adapter to determine the device name
for the card
